At first glance, these giant-bat-like creatures might be mistaken for a spectre or other ethereal undead, but actually they are composed of mystical elemental energy. The secrets for how to form such elementals have been lost, but apparently the process is somehow still active in parts of the Frozen City. Due to their magical nature, elemental bats are very difficult to destroy using normal weapons and even elemental attacks have a limited effectiveness against them. Thankfully, elemental bats are individually not that tough, and a canny wizard can usually handle them. However, when encountered in numbers, or as one part of a chaotic situation, they can prove deadly.
